What does motion design cost?

Duration alone says little about production effort. The concept, design, movement and number of final versions determine the scope.

We quote each project according to its scope. These examples explain deliverables and are not fixed-price offers.

What does motion design cost?

The concept, visual style and number of scenes matter more than running time alone. A ten-second product film with elaborate transitions can require more design work than a longer, quieter animation. Before quoting, we establish the purpose, available assets, distribution channels and required versions. A flat per-second rate would hide these differences.

The main cost drivers

Concept and storyboard define the story. Illustration and design determine how much new material is needed. Animation covers timing, transitions and movement. Audio may include music, sound design and voice recording. Languages, formats, usage rights and review rounds also affect scope. A useful quote makes these elements explicit.

Logo animation

We start with a vector logo, brand colours and design guidelines. A brief closing signature requires different pacing from a brand-film opening. Define the main animation, readable final hold and required exports. Include transparent backgrounds or versions for light and dark surfaces in the brief if needed.

Social motion and campaigns

A campaign builds on one creative idea, adapted for web, stories and feeds. Each format needs its own composition: headlines wrap differently, products move and closing messages need room around interface elements. Agreeing formats at the beginning makes production more efficient. Short versions still need a clear opening and a complete message.

Explainers and product stories

Much of the work happens before animation. What question should the film answer? What does the audience already know? What can be left out? An approved script and storyboard reduce late changes. Software stories also require choosing relevant steps and handling sensitive information. Technical content needs approval from the client’s subject specialist.

Three briefs, different scopes

A Brand Motion Kit can focus on a logo, titles and closing signature. A Motion Campaign combines a main film with purposefully designed shorter versions and channel formats. An explainer develops a clear story across several scenes. These solve different problems; they are not interchangeable price tiers. Our concept films demonstrate the different approaches.

What a quote should include

Check the number of concepts, durations, aspect ratios and languages. Concept, design, animation and sound should be clearly assigned. Review rounds, schedule, delivery formats and usage rights matter too. Specify whether editable project files or future updates are required. Music, font and image rights need to fit the intended use.

Using the budget well

A clear focus is more valuable than a long list of effects. Existing brand assets can shorten design work when suitable for animation. Agree a visual direction before detailed animation and consolidate feedback for each round. With a limited budget, reducing messages or concepts gives the remaining idea room to be executed carefully.

What we need to estimate your project

Send the objective, audience, intended use, approximate scope and deadline. A logo, brand guidelines, existing imagery and one or two references are helpful. Share a budget range if available so we can shape a suitable proposal. Skyline creates motion design in Salzburg for businesses throughout Austria. The first conversation leads to a specific scope and quote.
